TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Senior South Carolina women’s tennis team member Gira Schofield advanced to the semifinals of her respective singles draw Thursday night at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Schofield, ranked No. 31 nationally, defeated No. 61 Naoko Ueshima from Georgia 6-1, 6-3 in the crimson draw. She will next face Jackie Wu from Vanderbilt.

In the gold draw, Gamecock freshman Ashley Miller suffered a 6-2, 6-2 setback against No. 56 Courtney Ulery from Vanderbilt. Miller plays LSU’s Nicole Kantor next in a consolation match.

Miller and Schofield will compete in doubles as well Friday in the white draw, first playing Ueshima and Cameron Ellis from Georgia.
