COLUMBIA – South Carolina freshman guard Jordan Jones earned Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors for the period ending Nov. 11 the league announced today. Jones started her college career with a bang, scoring 15 points, handing out four assists and swiping four steals against Saint Francis (Pa.) in the season opener Friday night.

“I am extremely happy for Jordan,” South Carolina head coach Susan Walvius said. “She has worked hard in practice to learn the system. She not only shoots the ball well, but she defends, rebounds, passes and makes hustle plays. She is extremely bright and has been willing to do whatever we ask to help the team.”

Earning the start in her first college game, Jones came out gunning, hitting the first 3-pointer she attempted just 17 seconds into the game. She went on to net all of her 15 points by the 7:20 mark of the first half, shooting 4-of-6 from 3-point range and 5-of-7 overall. Her offensive production helped the Gamecocks to a 15-point halftime lead, from which Saint Francis would never recover. Jones’ 66.7 percent 3-point accuracy for the game was the sixth-best percentage by a freshman in South Carolina history and the best since both Sarah Burgess hit 7-of-10 from long range against Mississippi on March 6, 2003.

Jones and the Gamecocks return to action on Thu., Nov. 15, when they host Virginia at 7 p.m. at the Colonial Center. Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for youth. Order tickets by calling the South Carolina Ticket Office at 803.777.4274 or via the website GamecocksOnline.com.
