MACON, Ga. – South Carolina senior Mark Anderson posted a 69 (-3) to hold a share of fourth place after the first round of the inaugurual Brickyard Collegiate Championship Sunday. The Gamecocks are tied for sixth place, one strike behind Akron in fifth.

Making his 2007-08 debut, Anderson made his move on the back nine, carding birdies on three of his last seven holes.

Sophomore George Bryan IV is in 34th place after a first-round 73 (+1). His three bogeys on the front nine were offset by an eagle on the par-5 sixth. Bryan settled down to hit par on the back nine.

One stroke behind Bryan, juniors Patrick Cunning and Allen Koon are in 38th place. Koon’s round was up and down, as he posted four birdies but sprinkled them among six bogeys. Junior Mark Silvers’ 75 (+3) has him in 44th place.

Clemson leads the tournament at 277, one stroke up on Georgia. Harris English, playing as an individual for Georgia, leads the individual race with a 65 (-7). He scorched the back nine with five birdies. Play resumes on Monday at The Brickyard at Riverside.
