The 16th-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks (3-1, 1-1 SEC) worked out at the Bluff Road practice fields on Thursday afternoon. The Gamecocks are preparing for their meeting with the Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1 SEC) on Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. The 12:30 p.m. contest will be televised by Lincoln Financial Sports.

Following practice, Coach Steve Spurrier was asked if there would be any other lineup changes this week. “If we play some different guys, we’ll play some different guys and you’ll see them when they go in there and say, `who’s that?’ Look him up on the roster because there may be some, the way some of our guys have performed this week.

“Sometimes the way we practice out here, it’s discouraging. We keep thinking we can throw and catch, but we don’t throw and catch very well in practice, so it makes it tough on the play calling. We’re going to try though. Mississippi State is awfully good up front – defensive line, linebackers, secondary – they’re an active bunch. Very good defense – one of the best we play every year. It’s going to be a tough day unless we can hit a pass or two somewhere.”

On the recovery status of Jasper Brinkley: “I went by this morning and he had two good-looking girls in there so he’s doing fine. From what they say, he should come back 100 percent. He’s out for the year, but he could do something in the spring.”
