N.C. State quotes

NC State Head Coach Elliot Avent
“We got off to a slow start. I am really proud of our players, the way they battled back. We were down 7-0 and the energy and enthusiasm we had in our dugout was unlike anything I had seen all year. I know that it gives you hope when you believe, but whether you are scoring runs or not, it is just a lot more fun when you have this type of enthusiasm.”

Mike Roskopf, DH
“When you get down seven runs and your season is on the line, you don’t want to leave. We had great time playing and we did all we could, but we just didn’t get it done when it came down to it.”

Charlotte Head Coach Loren Hibbs:
Opening Comment…
“I’m so proud of these guys, it’s unbelievable. I thought we swung the bats really well and when you get to this part of the tournament, everyone, except for maybe South Carolina, is short on pitchers. For our guys to turn around and do what we did 50 minutes after we lost is pretty special. We look forward to playing again.”

On the game…
“I don’t know about these guys. I was nervous until the last out was made. The ball just flies out of this park. When you have some physical guys there is going to be some runs scored. The first day when the wind was blowing in, I guess we lulled everyone to sleep because that’s not reality here.”

On today’s pitching performance…
“We’re playing good teams. When you’re playing good teams this time of year and the conditions are such that the game is fast and the wind is blowing out, there are going to be runs scored. I think Steedley could have lasted longer in the first game if we had played good defense behind him.”

Chris Taylor, Right Fielder
On his at bats…
“I struggled a little the first game and came back in the second game. I wanted to see a ball up in the zone and got a fastball my first at bat and took it to right field. I wasn’t trying to pull anything. I just wanted to get a good swing on it. It got a little backspin and carried out. My third at bat was pretty much the same thing. They went with a fastball again and I got another good swing on it.”

Kris Rochelle, Catcher
On the teams response after the first game…
“The team responded really well after the loss to South Carolina. Being an older guy, that’s one of the things that I look into, keeping the guys up and in a positive mood. Honestly, we knew we made some mistakes in the first game and we let that game get away from us, but we came back in the second one and were ready to play.”
