Playing in the capital city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the SCORE International basketball team defeated Ramos Mejia 98-85. SCORE posted five players in double digit scoring and three with double digit rebounding, including Bryce Sheldon who led all scorers with 18 points and Mitchell Carter who tied for the team lead with 11 rebounds.

Getting off to a slow start in the first quarter the team rallied around several long range shots and a couple of thunderous dunks. When asked why the team allowed Ramos Mejie out to the early 12 point lead South Carolina’s Chad Gray responded “because it is cold enough to freeze water in this gym!”

Phil Turner of Mississippi State, who has turned out to be the comedian of the team, said “my girl-friend thought Argentina was in Canada. With how cold it is here she might be right.” Unofficially the temperature in the gym at tip-off was 58 degrees. A few trips up and down the court though and the players were able to break a sweat.

Thursday night’s game with Obras Sanitarias should prove to be the toughest match up for the team. They will be playing against seven members of the Argentinean national team that won the gold medal in the 2004 Olympics.
