COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team won its sixth straight match Friday, beating Auburn 4-3 at Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C. The Gamecocks improved to 14-3 overall with the victory and moved to 6-1 in the SEC, while Auburn dipped to 9-6 and 3-4 in conference play.

The Gamecocks won a heated doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead. After Gira Schofield and Ana Marija Zubori dropped an 8-3 decision to Alex Haney and Melissa Koning at the top slot, South Carolina’s Christyn Lucas and Natasa Vuckovic registered an 8-2 triumph over Whitney Chappell and Fani Chifchieva on court 2.

Laura Ganzer and Megan McGavock of Carolina were leading Kelly Adams and Jil Hastenrath 6-3 when the Gamecocks won the No. 2 doubles position. Ganzer and McGavock continued to lead 7-4 before the Tigers won three straight games to tie the match. After the Gamecocks held serve, Ganzer and McGavock grinded out the final game to win 9-7.

Schofield rolled through her singles contest at the No. 1 slot versus 30th-ranked Chifchieva 6-1, 6-3. It was her second consecutive win against a top-30 opponent and upped her record to 15-11 and 11-5 at one singles.

Ganzer made short work of Adams playing on court 6, where she won 6-2, 6-2 to put the Gamecocks ahead 3-0, and Vuckovic clinched the win for Carolina thanks to a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Koning. It marked Vuckovic’s 10th straight win and made her 15-2 in dual matches.

The Tigers got on the board when Chappell took a 7-5, 6-1 match from Lucas at the No. 4 spot. Auburn won the last two matches as well, first with Hastenrath’s 6-4, 3-6, (10-8) victory over McGavock at No. 5 singles. Haney was a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 winner playing Zubori on court 2.
