Columbia, S.C. – Five Gamecock divers participated in the first day of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships today. The women competed on the 3 M springboard and the men on the 1 M springboard.

Sophomore David Ovelson was the highest finishing Gamecock. He finished fifth with a total score of 636.75 on the 1 M. The top three finishers in the event received automatic bids to the NCAA Championships. Those finishers were Florida State’s Terry Horner, Miami’s Reuben Moss and Auburn’s Steven Segerlin. However, if Horner, Moss and Segerlin receive bids on other boards this weekend, then additional spots on the 1 M may be available. Sophomore Corry Christian was South Carolina’s other representative on the men’s side. Christian finished 17th overall with a total of 545.55 points.

Senior Lyndsey Havens was South Carolina’s highest finisher on the women’s side. She finished 16th in the trials with a score of 258.80. Freshmen Sarah Mory and Morgan Ricke also competed for South Carolina. Mory finished 29th with 232.10 points and Ricke finished 47th with 190.65. The five automatic NCAA qualifiers on the 3 M board were Hali Saucier of LSU, Corey Gerlach of Auburn, Jenna Dryer of Miami, Heather Bounds of Miami and Lynnsey Segraves of Auburn.

Competition will continue tomorrow with the women competing on the 1 M board and the men competing on the 3 M.
