Columbia, S.C. – Former South Carolina infielder Drew Meyer (2000-01-02) has been called up to the Major Leagues and will be on the roster of the Texas Rangers this evening when they face the Seattle Mariners. First pitch is set for 10:05 pm ET. Meyer, a former All-American and a 2002 first round selection (10th pick overall), becomes the third current Gamecock player to play in the Major Leagues. All three Carolina players in “The Show” right now are former Gamecock shortstops (Brian Roberts; Orioles, Adam Everett; Astros).

Drew Meyer set the SEC single-season record for hits with 120 in 2002 as the Gamecocks reached the National Championship game at the College World Series. Meyer also holds USC single-season school records from that season including at bats (334) and singles (86). He is the career leader in singles at Carolina with 209 in three seasons.
