USC-UF Game Notes – Jan. 25, 2006

The 62 points scored by Florida was a season-low. The previous low was 69 against Auburn on 1/14/06. The 62 points is the least amount of points UF has scored since they scored 53 in a 53-52 win over NO. 3 UK on March 6, 2005.

UF averages 83.8 ppg. The 23 points in the first half by the Gators was their lowest output this season. Their previous low was 30 against Florida State Nov. 25, 2005.

The last USC win against a ranked team was a 73-61 victory against #3 Kentucky on Feb. 15, 2005 in the Colonial Center. Carolina has won two straight games in the Colonial Center against a team that was ranked in the top four in the nation.

Tarence Kinsey scored eight of Carolina’s last 11 points. He finished the game with 19 points.

Renaldo Balkman scored in double figures for the 12th time this season and Tarence Kinsey for the 14th time.

Tonight’s attendance was 10,844.

Tre’ Kelley came into tonight’s game averaging 3.4 assists per game this season. In the first half Kelley totaled four of his eight assists. He has four or more assists in 10 games this season. The eight assists tied his season high which was recorded against Winthrop. He has at least four assists in six of the last seven games. Kelley tied his season high with five rebounds (Monmouth, and Clemson)

The 2 points by Rocky Trice are his first points (12:39) since the second half of the Georgia game (he didn’t score a point at Vandy and didn’t play at UK). Prior to Vandy, he had scored in 34 consecutive games – the longest streak on the team. The longest streak now belongs to —- Antoine Tisby —- he has scored in 29 straight games dating back to last year’s Feb. 2 game at Georgia.

The Gamecocks as a team had 10 steals. It ties their second best total of the season. (15 vs. UNC Greensboro, and 10 vs. SC State) The last time USC posted 10+ steals against an SEC foe was on March 3, 2005 against Mississippi. The Gamecocks also posted 10+ steals in a SEC game against Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia. The Gamecocks won all of those games except for the Tennessee game.

Carolina forced 17 turnovers while only committing eight. The Gamecocks held the advantage of points off turnovers 21-15 and ended up winning the game by six points.
