COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina head volleyball coach Nancy Somera announced the commitment of two players for the 2006 class. Meredith Moorhead of Charlotte, N.C. and Sarah Cline of Rock Hill, S.C. both committed to the Gamecocks Friday.

Moorhead is a 6-1 outside hitter from Providence High School and plays club volleyball for the Carolina Juniors. A Wendy’s Heisman Female Athlete nominee, Moorhead helped lead her high school team to the North Carolina state championship tournament in 2002 and 2004. Prepvolleyball.com has also named her 64th among their Top 100 senior aces. Moorehead is also a three-time honor roll student at Providence.

“Meredith is a prototype player. She has size, athleticism and skill and can play a number of positions for us,” said Somera. “I have caught glimpses of solid future leadership in Meredith. She naturally reaches out to teammates and I have seen other attributes in her that will make her a great addition to our program.”

Cline is a 5-7 defensive specialist from Northwestern H.S. in Rock Hill, S.C. Like Moorhead, Cline is a member of the Carolina Junior club team based in Charlotte coached by Jennifer Adeva and Rick Kiser.

“Sarah is a spunky, super positive defensive player. She brings a lot of energy to the floor,” said Somera. “She really wants to be a Gamecock and that means a lot. Our goal in the recruiting process is to make a match between the prospect and our team. Those are the type of players we want here.”

This marks the beginning of the first full recruiting season under the Somera staff at South Carolina.
