Box Score

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Shonda Cole and Marija Milosevic led Carolina with 13 kills apiece while Belita Salters recorded five blocks and five kills but Jane Collymore’s 17 kills and the Florida offense proved to be too much for the Gamecocks as the fourth-ranked Gators swept Carolina, 3-0. Game scores were 23-30, 16-30 and 21-30.

“Florida is an all around solid team,” said Carolina head coach Nancy Somera. “We were making the right decisions tonight but we didn’t have the result we wanted. We kept up our intensity and effort and were competitive throughout the whole match. I felt very good about our defense tonight. I’m very pleased with the way Belita Salters and Crystal Johnson played tonight.”

Carolina gave Florida all they could handle in game one as the Gamecocks’ aggressive blocking kept USC in the game. Belita Salters recorded four block assists and Cole added another three as Carolina kept Florida’s hitting percentage to .229. Cole and Milosevic each notched five kills for USC but Florida took the game one victory, 30-23. Collymore recorded five kills for the Gators.

Florida dominated in game two, hitting .469 as Collymore and Kisya Killingsworth each notched six kills for the Gators. Milosevic led Carolina with four kills but USC only hit .088 as Florida rolled to a 30-16 victory.
