COLUMBIA, S.C. – Shonda Cole led the Gamecocks with 17 kills while Lauren Ford added nine kills and four total blocks as South Carolina (9-5, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) rolled to a 3-0 win over Ole Miss (6-10, 0-4 SEC) Sunday afternoon. Carolina hit .301 in the match while the Rebels only hit .130. Nicole Miller added six total blocks for the Gamecocks. Game scores were 30-26, 30-22 and 30-26.

“This was one of our better offensive and defensive afternoons,” said Carolina head coach Nancy Somera. “Defense was the difference maker today. We were digging, setting and attacking right back at them. Our plan is to focus on being a better team and we are doing much better out there.”

Carolina hit an impressive .400 in game one, holding Ole Miss to .179. Cole led the Gamecocks with nine kills, hitting .533 while Ford added six kills, hitting .556. Ole Miss was led by Emily Jones and Katie Kramer with three kills each and Nikki Hill with two kills and four service aces. The Gamecocks went on an 8-4 run to finish game one with a 30-26 victory.

USC controlled game two as the Gamecocks held Ole Miss to a .000 hitting percentage. Cole led Carolina with four kills while Marija Milosevic added three. Nicole Miller played a solid net game, recording four block assists. Jaclyn Toohey led Ole Miss with four kills.

Carolina was firing on all cylinders in game three, hitting .314 as a team and holding the Rebels to .196. Cole once again led Carolina with four kills along with the four kills added by Marija Milosevic. Sarah Morgan and Ford added three kills apiece for the Garnet and Black. Toohey once again led Ole Miss with six kills.

South Carolina hits the road next weekend and will take on the Georgia Bulldogs Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. in Athens, Ga. The Gamecocks will then travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the Gators on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
