The South Carolina Gamecocks worked out for two hours on the Bluff Road practice fields Wednesday afternoon. Here are head coach Steve Spurrier’s comments following the practice:

“Just a normal afternoon practice. Nothing exciting much happened.”

How the offense played compared to Tuesday: “I can’t say much better. We just tried to throw against the air a bit. We threw a little bit better, but nothing to brag about. We’re waiting for some guys to make plays around here. That’s what we need to happen – guys throw it and guys catch it. We’re struggling to do that right now, but there is potential to do it.”

On the NCAA sanctions: “That’s fine. We don’t plan on breaking any rules around here. If we do accidentally, we’ll report ourselves and go on from there. We thought it would be about that. We’re trying to build this football program to where we can be competitive. Hopefully, we’ll have another outstanding signing class and go from there.”

On his team’s readiness for the opener: “I like where we are because we’re healthy. We are what we are. If our quarterbacks can throw it and our receivers can catch it and we can pass block, then I think we can get some guys open, but you have to throw it and catch it. Only time will tell. We’re going to find out a week from tomorrow night.”

INJURY REPORT: Dakota Walker remains out with an infection in his left knee. He is expected to be out for the next two weeks. Brandon Isaac left practice late due to excessive fatigue.

OTHER NOTES: The squad will be off on Thursday and resume practice on Friday at 4:15 p.m. All practices are closed to the public. Coach Spurrier’s first radio call-in show will be Thursday night at Pulliam Ford from 7-8 p.m. It will air across the state live on the Gamecock Sports Network and can also be heard on the world wide web at uscsports.com.
