COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Georgia Bulldogs evened the series against South Carolina as the Gamecocks fell 3-0 in game two. The Gamecocks were held to just two hits as UGA managed three runs on seven hits. Aleca Johnson took the loss for USC and fell to 3-3 while Katie Griffith earned the win for UGA and improved to 14-2.

Johnson threw a perfect game through three innings and gave up her first hit in the fifth, but it was not enough as the Bulldogs also scored their first run in the fifth. With two outs, Megan McAllister was hit by a pitch and scored on an RBI triple by Jade Jarvis to give Georgia a 1-0 lead.

The Gamecocks’ only hits came in the fourth inning as Ashley Smith led off with a single up the middle and Samantha Jennings singled to centerfield. The two runners would remain stranded as Griffith recorded a strike out and a ground out to end the inning.

USC went down in order in the fifth and in the sixth, was only able to draw a walk by Johnson. Melanie Henkes entered the game in the fifth and in two innings pitched she allowed six hits and two runs. Georgia’s cushion runs came in the seventh as Julie Milner scored on a single by Ashley Godfrey and Jarvis came home on a fielder’s choice.

The Gamecocks could not muster a rally as Amber Curtis came in to pinch hit for Kristin Hall and flied out, Chrissy Schoonmaker then lined out to short and Melissa Sandel struck out to end the inning.

The deciding game of the series is scheduled for Wednesday at 4 p.m.
