Columbia, S.C. – The University of South Carolina baseball team has announced the 2004 South Carolina baseball schedule that includes 37 home games at Sarge Frye Field. Carolina’s schedule features four contests with Clemson, the Battle of the Border vs. North Carolina and 10 SEC series. South Carolina will play 26 games vs. 2003 NCAA Regional teams including a three-game series at home vs. 2003 College World Series participant LSU.

“It is a very challenging schedule with some of the best teams in the nation coming to Sarge Frye Field,” said South Carolina head baseball coach Ray Tanner.

Carolina opens the season on Saturday February 7 traveling to Spartanburg, S.C. to face Wofford, in the inaugural game at Russell King Field. The Gamecocks will then open an 11-game homestand at Sarge Frye Field including a three-game series vs. UNC-Wilmington. South Carolina and Clemson will meet for a home and home series on March 6 and 7 with the Gamecocks hosting the Tigers on Saturday and traveling to Clemson on Sunday. Carolina and Clemson also meet on April 7 at Clemson and April 14 in Columbia.

The Battle of the Border with South Carolina vs. North Carolina is a rematch of the 2003 NCAA Super Regional and pits the two teams with the top recruiting classes in the nation. It is set for March 31 at 7 p.m. at Knight’s Castle in Charlotte, N.C.

South Carolina opens the SEC season at home from March 19-21 in a three-game series with LSU. Other home SEC series include Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Four of South Carolina’s five SEC opponents at home reached the NCAA Regionals last season. SEC-TV will broadcast South Carolina at Vanderbilt (April 3, 3 p.m.) and South Carolina vs. Alabama (April 24, 4 p.m.).

South Carolina enters the 2004 season fresh off the school’s second consecutive College World Series appearance. Carolina has won four of the last five SEC Eastern Division Championships and competed at four consecutive NCAA Regionals and NCAA Super Regionals. South Carolina head baseball coach Ray Tanner is entering his eighth season at the helm of the Carolina baseball program. Coach Tanner owns a 319-135 at Carolina and a 714-308-3 record in 16 years of coaching college baseball.
