COLUMBIA S.C. – South Carolina’s Matt Campbell was named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Campbell allowed just four hits and one run in eight innings of work during the Gamecocks 5-1 victory against Alabama on Sunday. The win clinched the Gamecocks’ first ever sweep in Tuscalusa.

The sophomore left-hander from Simpsonville, S.C. recorded two strikeouts and at one point turned away 14 consecutive Crimson Tide batters. His eight innings pitched tied a career high.

Campbell improved to 4-3 on the year and now owns 63 strikeouts in 62 2/3 innings pitched. This is Campbell’s second SEC Pitcher of the Week award this season, his first coming after a one-hit eight inning performance against Duquesne, February 23rd.
