CLEMSON, S.C. – The South Carolina Gamecocks garnered seven first place finishes Saturday at the Orange and Purple Classic, hosted by Clemson University.

On the women’s side, Aleen Bailey won the 100m dash with a time of 11.21 while sophomore Erica Whipple won the 200m dash with a time of 23.08.

South Carolina’s nationally ranked 4x100m relay team also won their event with a qualifying time of 44.21.

On the men’s side, Otis Harris claimed the top finishing spot in the 400m dash with a time of 45.37 while William Emase won the 800m run with a time of 1:50.70.

In the men’s field events, South Carolina had two first place finishers as Chris Steddum won the pole vault with a mark of 5.20, an Orange and Purple Classic meet record. Tony Allmond also won his event, jumping 7.78m in the long jump.

The Orange and Purple Classic concludes the Gamecocks’ 2003 Outdoor regular season schedule. Carolina now travels to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, beginning Thursday, May 15 at the Tom Black Track Facility.
