Kick off the 2002 Gamecock football season in sneakers and then watch practice August 10th!!

That’s right – enter Lou Holtz’s Chick-Fil-A 5K Run and Walk today!

Finish the race on the field at Williams-Brice Stadium and then get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Stadium and watch the Gamecocks football practice that morning. Proceeds from the event will go to the Holtz Charitable Foundation.

Event Participants Receive Event participants will receive the inaugural finishers medal; a t-shirt with a special design including Coach Holtz; a Gamecock collector’s item, a behind-the-scenes tour of the Williams-Brice Stadium football facilities including the lockerroom, the weight room, the training room and the Heisman room. Participants will also be allowed to watch practice that morning.

The Holtz Charitable Foundation The race will benefit the Holtz Charitable Foundation which is a nonprofit grant making corporation. Founded in 1998 by Lou and Beth Holtz, the mission of the Foundation is to promote Christianity, education and charity.

Registration The pre-registration fee is $35. After July 26, 2002 – the late registration fee is $40. All proceeds will go to the Holtz Charitable Foundation.

Fill out the attached Race Entry Form (the pdf on the front page of uscsports.com) and mail to the address listed (Lou Holtz Foundation; Football Office; George Rogers Blvd.; Columbia, SC 29208) or registered online at www.carolinamarathon.org or www.rmssports.com. Pre-Registration applications must be post marked by July 26, 2002. Confirmations are not mailed. In-person registration will be at Williams-Brice Stadium at the Lettermen’s Lounge Friday August 9, 2002, Noon to 9:00 pm Race Day registration will be from 6:00 am to 7:00 am T-Shirts are not guaranteed to late registrants.

Course The race will Start and Finish at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Course makes a big loop around the State Fair Grounds and winds back to enter the Stadium.

Race Start 5-K – 7:45 am 5-K Walk – 8 am

Time and Results Each 5-K participant will receive a ChampionChip transmitter as well as a race number in their race packet. Chips must be laced to the participant’s shoe and must be returned in the chip return area. A $30 fee will be charged if a chip is not returned. Results will be posted on the website.

Trophies Trophies will be presented to the top three overall men and women, top three masters men and women and top three men and women in each age category: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+. No double-dipping permitted.

Prize Money Top three overall male and female finishers $200/$100/$75

First masters male and female (40 and over) $75
