GREENVILLE, SC –
The South Carolina women’s golf team shot a 310 Saturday, a 15-shot improvement from Friday’s opening round, and moved up to 14th place heading into the final round of the Lady Paladin Invitational at the Furman University Golf Course. Auburn shot a 12-over 300 on Saturday, (two day total of 599) giving the Tigers a two shot lead over Wake Forest, who shot a 302 (two day total of 601).

The final of three rounds begins at 9 a.m. Sunday

South Carolina junior All-American Kristy McPherson continued leading the Lady Gamecocks, firing a three-over 75, giving her a two day total of 152 and jumping up 10 spots to a tie for 15th place. McPherson is now only one shot back of seventh place. Junior Kacy Thompson and sophomore Marci Robinson joined McPherson Saturday with each firing a round in the 70s. Rounding out the scores for Carolina Saturday were Kacy Thompson (77, 159, T54th place), sophomore Kory Thompson (80, 162, T71st), sophomore Marci Robinson (78, 162, T71st) and freshman Tiffany Catafygioto (87, 172, T95th). Junior Adrienne Gautreaux, who is playing as an individual this tournament, shot a 13-over 85 and is in 88th place with a two-day 168 total.

Auburn and Wake Forest look to be the two teams in the run for the championship for Sunday’s final round. Louisiana State shot a 306 Saturday, and with a two-day total of 608, is nine shots back of Auburn. Texas Christian also shot a 306, which boosted the Frogs up to fourth place, 11 shots back. Florida, which shot a 299, and Vanderbilt which shot a 303, round out the top five with a two-day total of 611, 12 shots back of the lead.

Individually, LSU’s Meredith Duncan gained a two shot lead heading into Sunday, firing a one-under 71 Saturday, giving her a two day total of one-under 143. Nuria Clau of Wake Forest shot a one-over 73 and is currently in second place. Auburn’s Danielle Downey jumped up to third place by firing a round of 72, and has a two-day total of three-over 147. Deborah Means of Wake Forest is in fourth place (73, 148) while Brooke Tull of TCU (74), Emily Bastel of Michigan State (73) and Courtney Wood of Vanderbilt (74) are all in a tie for fifth place with a two-day total of five-over 149.
