COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 23rd-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team remained undefeated in the SEC with an overpowering 6-1 win over 30th-ranked LSU Friday afternoon at the Maxcy Gregg Tennis Center on the USC campus.

The win lifts USC to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the SEC. The Tigers drop to 7-3, 0-1 in the SEC.

The Gamecocks jumped all over the Tigers to start the match, pulling out to commanding leads in all three doubles matches. At No. 3 doubles, Katarina Markovski and Ayako Suzuki stormed to a 5-0 lead and won going away, 8-1, over LSU’s Tami Botts and Perri Budd. But, LSU fought back to tighten both remaining matches.

USC had to win the No. 3 doubles match for the point after Bruna Colosio and Rocio Fantilli surged to beat Jennifer Radman and Kathy Boyanovich 9-7 at No. 1 doubles. USC did clinch the doubles point with a win at No. 2 as Lynn-Yin Tan and Jodi Kenoyer rallied from a 6-4 tiebreak deficit to beat Amanda Mang and Amy McIlhaney, 9-8 (9-7). The doubles-point win moves Carolina to a perfect 9-0 in that category on the year (doubles were not played at Mississippi State).

In singles action, USC stretched their overall match lead to 3-0 when Jodi Kenoyer and Ayako Suzuki closed out their matches within one minute of one another. Kenoyer toppled Amy McIlhaney 6-2, 6-1 while Suzuki won her second match in as many tries on the year, beating Perri Budd 6-2, 6-2.

Carolina junior Kathy Boyanovich finished off the win minutes later, putting away Tami Botts 6-1, 6-3. Other singles winners for the Gamecocks were Katarina Markovski (def. Bruna Colosio 6-4, 7-5) and Lynn-Yin Tan (def. Rocio Fantilli 6-2, 7-5).

South Carolina hosts SEC West foe Arkansas Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
