COLUMBIA, S.C- Cally Plummer knocked down a match high 19 kills and added 13 digs defensively to lead the South Carolina volleyball team past LSU today 3-1. Game scores were 30-26, 30-24, 28-30 and 30-26. Carolina improved their record to 12-3 on the year and 5-3 in SEC play, while LSU falls to 10-6, 5-2 in league action.

Next up for Carolina is a rematch with Tennessee, the team that handed Carolina their second conference loss of the season last week in Knoxville. That match will take place this Friday night at 7:00 at the Volleyball Competition Facility.

“We were missing the beat a little bit today,” said Gamecock head coach Kim Christopher. “Today we changed some things in our lineup to see if we could get more production. We played Amy Pratt for the first time for a change of pace and to see what she could do. We are trying to get our offense more in sync-that’s why we changed our lineup a little. We are still making some adjustments.”

The opening game began with several lead changes before the Tigers took a 7-4 lead. Carolina took their first lead of the game at 9-8 on a Nadia Sefferovich kill. Carolina got up to a 20-11 lead on a Plummer kill, but LSU rallied to tie the game at 21, and then again at 24. USC went up 29-25 on a Berna Dwyer kill. The game ended on a Megan Hosp dump play to give Carolina a 30-26 win.

In game two, Carolina jumped out to an early 6-2 lead on Sefferovich service ace, but the Tigers rallied to tie the game at nine on a block solo. The Gamecocks then took over the game. Attaining the lead at 20-15 on a Plummer kill, then again at 24-18 on a Plummer kill.

LSU scratched back to make the score 28-23, but Plummer silenced the threat with yet another kill. A Niece Curry kill to the back right corner provided the game winner at 30-24.

Faced by losing the match, LSU came out in the third game and led the game until Carolina tied it at 21. LSU held strong, holding off a late Carolina charge that got them to 29-28, but the Tigers won on a kill, 30-28.

The fourth game was a back and forth affair, but Carolina remained in control the entire game. Up 6-1, then at 8-3 on a Sefferovich kill, Carolina led by as much as 14-9, complements of several Tiger attack errors. The Gamecocks went up 26-20 on a Nia Mackie kill, then 27-21 on a Plummer knockdown. LSU put together a rally of their own, getting as close as 29-26 on a Curry error, but Plummer ended that with her 19th kill of the match.

In addition to Plummer’s efforts, Dwyer finished with 12 kills and 11 digs, while Sefferovich added 11. The Gamecocks hit .236 in the match while holding LSU to .189.
