South Carolina Takes Part in Extra Yard for Teachers Week
Sept. 20, 2017

Teachers are willing to go the extra yard for their students, and now South Carolina Athletics is partnering with the University's College of Education to help return the favor. South Carolina is taking part in the College Football Playoff Foundation's "Extra Yard for Teachers Week" (September 16-- 23) with the promotion of USC College of Education Teacher Appreciation Day at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, October 28, for the Gamecocks' Homecoming game against Vanderbilt.

The mission of Extra Yard for Teachers is to elevate the profession by inspiring and empowering teachers using the high profile of college football. The College Football Foundation aims to address the challenges educators face by assisting them with resources, recognition, recruitment, and professional development.

South Carolina is working with the state's Department of Education to reach out to all school principals this week to remind them that educators can purchase tickets for that game at the discounted price of only $25, which is a savings of $20 per ticket. The discount is available for all educators and their guests, and they do not have to be members of the Gamecock Club to buy the tickets.

This is the third straight year that South Carolina will honor educators by offering discounted tickets to teachers, school staff, and their families.

"Last season's game had great attendance with over 2,200 tickets sold," said Blake Woodward, Senior Account Executive of IMG Learfield Ticket Solutions for South Carolina Athletics. "This year we are looking forward to recognizing even more teachers in the stands of Williams-Brice Stadium."

In coordination with the USC College of Education and the South Carolina Department of Education, select teachers will be honored on the field during the game.

"The in-game presentation is a great memory for the teachers on the field and in the stands," said Woodward. "It's an important endeavor for our athletics department to give back to teachers and thank them for their hard work."
