Gamecocks Enjoy Banner Semester in Classroom

University of South Carolina student-athletes enjoyed another productive semester during Spring 2010 by concluding the term with a departmental grade point average (GPA) of 3.132. It marks the seventh consecutive semester Gamecock student-athletes have surpassed the 3.0 plateau. Additionally, 14 out of 17 teams had GPAs above 3.0 for the semester.
Mark Berson's men's soccer squad had its highest team GPA on record and led the department with a 3.486 GPA. Volleyball followed closely with a 3.468 GPA, their second highest GPA on record, just ahead of women's swimming and diving, who finished with a 3.461 GPA. Women's track and field/cross country enjoyed another solid year by recording their third highest GPA on record. Women's basketball made biggest improvement from the fall semester by completing the spring with a 2.994 GPA.
Additionally, 49 student-athletes earned 4.0 GPAs and were named to the President's List, 144 were named to the Dean's List and more than half of student-athletes (320) were named to the Athletics Director's Honor Roll (3.0 GPA).
"Our student-athletes have dedicated themselves to being the best students they can," said Raymond Harrison, Director of Academics and Life Skills. "With the opening of the Dodie Academic Enrichment Center, they recognize the commitment and resources that have been made available to them. Above all, they understand the standards and expectations that have been established by the academic staff, coaches and administrators. We look forward to challenging and supporting them each and every day to become graduates of the University of South Carolina."
