the Gamecocks defeated The Citadel 9-5 at Riley Park in front of 5,838
fans on Tuesday evening. The Gamecocks improved to 18-3
South Carolina senior guard
Ieasia Walker earned a spot on the Associated Press' All-SEC Second
Team, the organization announced today. Sophomore forward Aleighsa Welch
was tabbed a league honorable mention.

Freshman left-hander Jack Wynkoop retired the first 16 batters he faced and was backed by an offense that pounded out 14 hits as sixth ranked South Carolina (9-2) upended Ball State (5-5) 10-0 on Tuesday evening in the first of a two-game baseball series at Carolina Stadium. It is the Gamecocks third shutout victory in the last four games. The series concludes on Wednesday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
South Carolina hosts Mississippi State on Wednesday in the final regular season home contest of the 2012-13 campaign for the Gamecocks. The night will serve as Senior Night for senior forward Lakeem Jackson, senior guard Shane Phillips and managers Josh King and Bubba Wright. Senior Night festivities will begin at approximately 6:40 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3

Equestrian redshirt junior Johnna Letchworth has been named SEC Co-Horsemanship Rider of the Month. Letchworth was 3-0 for the Gamecocks during the month of February, picking up MVP wins vs. No. 1 Georgia (Feb. 2) and at No. 2 Auburn (Feb. 14). In her victory over the Tigers, she set the SEC single-season record with a score of 80.5
Senior
first baseman LB Dantzler is one of 30 NCAA baseball student-athletes
who excel both on and off the field to be selected as a candidate for
the 2013 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate baseball. To be eligible for
the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I
senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence -
community, classroom, character and competition.

Colby Holmes, Forrest Koumas and Josh Knab combined for the first no-hitter by a Gamecock baseball team since March 26, 1975 as fifth ranked South Carolina exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on the way to a 14-1 win over Albany in game one of a doubleheader at Carolina Stadium. The no-hitter is the seventh in school history and the first combined no-hitter as well.
The South Carolina swimming and diving teams posted four more NCAA provisional qualifying times and swam seven lifetime bests on Saturday night to wrap up competition at the 2013 SEC Championships.

Junior guard Eric Smith hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining and freshman forward Laimonas Chatkevicius blocked the final Ole Miss shot to give South Carolina (13-13, 3-10 SEC) a 63-62 conference win over Ole Miss (19-7, 8-5 SEC) at Colonial Life Arena on Wednesday night.
The South Carolina swimming and diving teams will have three swimmers
and one diver in tonight's finals after posting three NCAA B cuts and 18
career bests in the preliminaries Wednesday morning at the 2013 SEC
Championships.

The South Carolina men's swimming and diving team posted a pair of school records at the finals on Tuesday night, giving the Gamecocks a strong start at the 2013 SEC Championships at the Texas A&M Student Recreation Center.
South Carolina junior high jumper Jeannelle Scheper was named the 2012 Junior Sportswoman of the Year at the 32nd annual St. Lucia National Sports Award Ceremony this past weekend. Scheper earned the nod over swimmer Sion Huxley, who was given the honor last year.

South Carolina opened the 2013 season with a series victory vs. Liberty at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks defeated Liberty 4-3 on Opening Day, rallied from seven runs down, for an 8-7 win vs. Liberty in game one of a doubleheader on Sunday and lost 3-2 in the nightcap, a seven-inning affair. South Carolina is 2-1 on the year and will next be in action hosting Albany in a three-game series at Carolina Stadium beginning on Friday, Feb. 22.
South Carolina (12-13, 2-10 SEC) fell to Alabama (17-8, 9-3 SEC) 68-58 in SEC action at Coleman Coliseum Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Brenton Williams scored 14 off the bench to lead the Gamecocks.

The women's swimming and diving team pulled out a thrilling 162-148 victory over Alabama on Saturday at the Alabama Aquatic Center, giving head coach McGee Moody his 100th career victory.

Brenton Williams scored 16 points on four 3-pointers to lead the offensive effort for South Carolina in a hard-fought loss on the road to No. 22 Missouri.
Men's swimming and diving is ranked No. 23 in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America Division I Team Rankings. The Gamecocks, who were unranked in the final poll of the fall season, returned to the rankings after defeating Duke, 159-141, on Jan. 12 and putting up a strong showing in a loss to 13th-ranked Florida State last Friday. South Carolina recorded 12 first-place finishes during the two meets.

Among the seven Gamecocks playing in postseason all-star games, three will play in the East-West Shrine Game on January 19. Representing the East squad are center T.J. Johnson and defensive end Devin Taylor. Johnson started every game over the past four seasons - a school record 53 consecutive starts. The 6-6, 319-pound team captain from Aynor, S.C., was a second-team All-SEC selection by the league's coaches. Taylor, a 6-8, 267-pounder from Beaufort, S.C., logged 45 tackles, including 8.5 tackles for loss in 2012. He finished his Carolina career with 35.5 tackles for loss and 18.5 sacks, ranking among the school's all-time top-10 in both categories. Playing for the West squad will be linebacker DeVonte Holloman. The 6-2, 241-pounder from Charlotte, N.C., played the Spur position for the Gamecocks in 2012. He logged 57 tackles with 8.0 tackles for loss, forced a pair of fumbles, and tied for the team lead with three interceptions.

Marcus Lattimore leaves Carolina as one of the Gamecocks' all-time greats. He finished his career with 2,677 rushing yards, sixth on Carolina's all-time list. He is the school record-holder in both rushing touchdowns (38) and touchdowns scored (41). He ranks fourth in rushing attempts (555), third in points scored (246 - most among non-kickers) and tied for second in 100-yard rushing games (11).
Equestrian redshirt sophomore Amber Henter was named the national rider of the month for November by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association. Henter picked up the national accolade in her event, Equitation Over Fences, after going 4-0 during the month of November. "I'm really proud of Amber and she certainly deserves all the recognition she has received this season," South Carolina head coach Boo Major said. "She's been a great captain and leader for our Hunt Seat team, and we're all really excited for her."

SEC coaches have selected Jadeveon Clowney as the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and have named punt returner Ace Sanders as the SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Year. They are the first Gamecocks to win those awards since Carolina joined the SEC in 1992.
Men's Tennis got strong showings across the board this fall with Andrew Adams playing in the qualifying rounds of the ITA All-American and reaching the quarterfinals of the ITA Carolina Regional, Thiago Pinheiro winning the back draw of the Carolina Regional, Kyle Koch playing in the singles final at Chattanooga, and Harry Menzies reaching the final of the Carolinas Invitational at Winthrop while teaming with Ben Barnette to win the doubles at the event. The team combined for 29 singles victories and 12 doubles wins over the four fall events.

Jadeveon Clowney has been named the 2012 Defensive End of the Year by the The Ted Hendricks Foundation. Clowney has set new South Carolina standards for sacks in a season (13.0),
tackles for loss in a season (21.5) and sacks in a single game (4.5 vs
Clemson). All of this came as a follow-up to his extremely successful
freshman season, when Clowney totaled eight sacks and 12 tackles for
loss. Clowney's other football accolades this season include a unanimous selection to Associated Press All-SEC First Team, coaches All-SEC First Team, three-time SEC Lineman of the Week, AFCA All-America selection, and Sporting News Midseason All-American.
Junior return specialist Ace Sanders was named to the first-team All-SEC squad as selected by the league's coaches as announced by the Southeastern Conference.Sanders set the Carolina single-season record for punt return yards with 363. He was the top punt returner in the SEC, averaging 14.5 yards per return, with seven returns of 27 yards or more. Sanders was a second-team selection by the Associated Press.

ROOSTER CROWS University of South Carolina sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was a unanimous selection to the Associated Press first-team All-SEC squad, it was announced today. Clowney, a 6-6, 256-pounder from Rock Hill, S.C., is second in the nation in both sacks (13.0) and tackles for loss (21.5), both single season school records. He is a finalist for the Nagurski, Lombardi, Bednarik and Hendricks awards. Carolina junior all-purpose back Ace Sanders and senior safety D.J. Swearinger earned spots on the AP's second team, while junior running back Marcus Lattimore earned honorable mention, despite having his season end prematurely following a knee injury.
Sophomore Aleighsa Welch from the Gamecock women's basketball team has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week. Welch scored a career-high 15 rebounds against Drexel, including 10 in the second half and a total of eight on the offensive end. It was the most rebounds by a Gamecock since Nov. 20, 2011. She averaged a double-double for the second week in a row and scored four of the team's first six points in the second half against Drexel to spark a comeback from a 14-point halftime deficit.

Carolina is heading to the Outback Bowl! The Gamecocks are bowl eligible for the eighth time in as many seasons under Steve Spurrier. He has taken Carolina to six bowl games. No other coach in Carolina history has taken the Gamecocks to more than three bowl games (Jim Carlen and Joe Morrison).
The Gamecocks have won 30 games over the last three seasons with a school record 21 wins in the last two years.
Carolina has a 2-1 record in the Outback Bowl with back to back wins over Ohio State after the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Women's Basketball fought back from 14 points down at halftime to defeat Drexel 58-55 Wednesday night at Colonial Life Arena. After trailing for most of the game, Gamecock senior Sancheon White hit a 3-pointer from the right wing to tie the score with just over a minute left and force overtime. In the extra period, a bucket by Ashley Bruner gave South Carolina the go-ahead points, and Aleighsa Welch sealed her fourth double-double of the season with a free throw to give the Gamecocks a three-point victory. The Gamecocks are now 8-0 on the season, which is the program's best start since 2002-03.
The South Carolina equestrian team will head in to the mid-season break as the No. 1 team in the country. In the most split coaches poll of the season, the Gamecocks held on to the top spot over Auburn, as Carolina received six of eleven first-place votes, while the Tigers received four first-place votes in the final coaches poll of the fall semester. South Carolina is currently 4-2 overall and 3-0 in SEC play, as the Gamecocks are the only SEC school with a perfect conference record.

Sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been named to the AFCA All-America team. Clowney leads the nation in tackles for loss with 21.5 this season, and is tied for first with 13 sacks. He is a finalist for the Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy and Rotary Lombardi Award.
Men's golf freshman Matt NeSmith was recently named the Rolex Player of the Year at the Rolex Junior All-America Awards Banquet. NeSmith became the first player in AJGA history to win the Rolex Tournament of Champions and the Polo Golf Junior Classic in the same season. He won the Polo Junior Golf Classic last fall by winning the championship match 4 and 3, then claimed a four-shot victory in the Tournament of Champions in June. NeSmith has had a stellar start to his Gamecock career. He posted an average of 74.33 in four tournament appearances this fall and recorded three top-20 finishes.

Steve Spurrier became the winningest coach in South Carolina history with 65 wins as the Gamecocks defeated Clemson 27-17 for Carolina's fourth straight victory in the series vs. the Tigers. Sophomore quarterback Dylan Thompson went 23-for-41 for 310 yards in the air with three touchdown passes and sophomore defensive end Jadeveon Clowney tallied 4.5 sacks to set the single-season record at Carolina with 13 on the year.
Men's Basketball claimed the 2012 Hoops For Hope Classic Championship on Sunday night in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with a 74-62 victory over Arkansas-Little Rock. Senior forward Lakeem Jackson collected his second double-double of the season with 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Jackson was named to the all-tournament team and senior guard LaShay Page was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.

ROOSTER CROWS South Carolina (3-0) defeated Rider (2-2) 88-76 at Colonial Life Arena on Monday night as a part of the Hoops for Hope Classic. Junior guard Brenton Williams led the way for the Gamecocks with the best stat line of his career. In his 38 minutes of play, Williams scored 22 points, hit 5-8 from behind the arc, pulled down four rebounds and dished out four assists. All numbers were career highs.
The University of South Carolina men's and women's soccer team were announced as recipients of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the 2011-12 academic year. A total of 717 college soccer teams (220 men, 497 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher to earn the award. A sum of 148 schools, including the University of South Carolina, had both their men's and women's programs recognized with the honor. The men's team was recognized as tying for the fifth-highest GPA in the country while the women's team stands 34th in their Division I listing.

Volleyball won a five-set victory at Alabama, taking the match 25-20, 25-12, 17-25, 20-25, 15-7. Juliette Thévenin set four career bests in the match with 27 kills on 73 attempts, four solo blocks and six blocks overall. Thévenin also had 16 digs for her 11th double-double of the campaign. Freshman outside hitter Jenna Allen also posted career highs with 11 kills and 15 digs, her first double-double of the year. Senior setter Taylor Bruns made 64 assists and 15 digs and tied her season high with three block assists. Sophomore outside hitter Bethanie Thomas led all players with 25 digs, while junior libero Paige Wheeler also had 15. Redshirt sophomore middle blocker Cara Howley tied a career best with five block assists.
The South Carolina swimming and diving teams wrapped up a stellar week at the Virginia Tech Invitational as both squads finished second after Saturday's finals. Junior Michael Flach led the way on Saturday night as he posted the nation's fastest time in an event for the second time in three nights. Flach won the championship final of the 200-yard butterfly as he swam a NCAA B cut of 1:45.51, which is currently the fastest time in the country.

Columbia Green and the Columbia Tree & Appearance Commission awarded South Carolina Athletics a Columbia Choice Award in the Renovation/Reuse category for its development of the Farmers Market site at Tuesday's Columbia Green annual meeting at Columbia Museum of Art. The site includes bio-retention cells to slow run-off, which was reduced by approximately 90 percent, and filter sediments and pollutants. All of which make 80 percent of the site permeable. Over 900 trees were planted, and the front of the site was designed as a flexible-use urban green space.
South Carolina women's basketball head coach Dawn Staley announced yesterday the signing of 6-foot-4 center Alaina Coates to a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play for the Gamecocks. Coates will have four seasons of eligibility beginning with the 2013-14 season. Coates helped Dutch Fork to a Class 4A state title last season, contributing 11 rebounds and five blocks in the title game. A three-time South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association All-State selection, she is the 28th ranked player in the 2013 class, according to ESPN.

South Carolina sophomores Patricia Kranz and Cole Miller have been named the SEC Divers of the Week. Kranz received Female Diver of the Week honors after leading the Gamecock women's team to a 169-126 victory over College of Charleston last Friday. Kranz won the one-meter springboard with a career-high score of 344.93, which ranks first in the SEC. She then placed first on the three-meter board with a career-best mark of 372.38, the second-best score in the conference. On the season, Kranz has six first-place finishes.
Miller finished first on the three-meter board and second on the one-meter board in a 178-115 win over College of Charleston to earn the Male Diver of the Week award. Miller's score of 424.05 in the three-meter competition, which is a career-high and ranks second in SEC, was 3.38 points shy of the school record. His one-meter score of 380.18, also a career-high, is the third best score in the conference this season.

Women's hoops used aggressive inside play and timely outside shooting to earn an 82-58 win at Louisiana Tech Monday night. Five Gamecocks finished the night in double figures, led by Ashley Bruner's 17, as South Carolina shot 48.3 percent from the field, including six 3-pointers, and won the rebound battle 43-26. Senior Ieasia Walker stuffed the stat sheet, including a career-best eight assists. The University of South Carolina Athletics Department added a closed caption ribbon board at Williams-Brice Stadium that debuted at Saturday's football game against Arkansas. In the department's constant effort to improve the fan experience, the closed caption board was added to further incorporate the deaf and hard-of-hearing community into the stadium experience. "We take to heart what our fans invest in our programs when they come to our stadiums and truly believe it is our responsibility to provide them the best stadium experience possible," South Carolina Director of Athletics Ray Tanner said. "The new video board has added another facet to enjoying our football games, and we are so pleased that it has also allowed us the chance to include the closed caption ribbon board to expand the experience of our deaf and hard-of-hearing fans."

D.J. Swearinger was named the National Defensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. The 6-foot, 210-pounder from Greenwood, S.C. totaled a career-best 13 tackles (10 solo), including one for a loss, and added one interception which he returned 69 yards for a touchdown as the 12th-ranked Gamecocks defeated Arkansas, 38-20. The South Carolina swimming and diving teams put forth one of their best efforts of season on Friday night as they swept College of Charleston in a dual meet. The Gamecock men defeated the Cougars, 178-115, while the Carolina women captured its first win of the season with a 169-126 victory. Junior Narayan Naik led the way with three first-place finishes: the 100 backstroke (58.27), 200 backstroke (2:06.98) and 400 IM (4:37.84).

ROOSTER CROWS The South Carolina cross country team is set to race in the 2012 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday at McAlpine Park in Charlotte, N.C. The Gamecocks are coming off a ninth-place finish at the SEC Championships. Freshman Kayla Lampe led the way with a 13th-place finish with a personal record of 21:02.30 as she earned second team All-SEC and SEC All-Freshman Team honors. Senior Chelsea France also placed inside the top 25, finishing 23rd with a PR or 21.23.67. South Carolina senior co-captain Kevin Stam and sophomore midfielder Braeden Troyer have earned selection to the 2012 Conference USA All-Academic Team. Stam holds a stellar GPA as a social work major at South Carolina and was honored earlier this season as part of the University's "No Limits" campaign. Troyer, who also earned all-conference accolades for the second-consecutive season earlier this week, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 Team earlier this month. Troyer maintains an outstanding GPA as a mathematics major.

Men's Soccer junior forward Bradlee Baladez and sophomore midfielder Braeden Troyer were both named to the All-Conference USA Second Team, and senior defender Mike Mangotic earned third-team honors. Baladez has garnered all-conference honors every year of his career at South Carolina and Troyer has been recognized for his second-consecutive season, after earning third-team and all-freshman honors in 2011. Mangotic earns the first postseason award of his career Sophomore defender Christa Neary has been named to the SEC Community Service Team for women's soccer. Christa Neary spent time this summer helping at a camp where she ran soccer drills and spoke to the kids about the benefits of an active lifestyle. A regular visitor with fans, Neary signed autographs at a community event and participated for the second year in a row in the annual "Light the Night" charity walk, which benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Men's soccer goalkeeper Alex Long has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week. Long played just one half against No. 25 Kentucky on Sunday, but the Gamecock netminder played a stellar 45 minutes in frame, posting a challenging four saves in the fifth Gamecock shutout of the season. Late in the contest Long was challenged with several shots, including some at point-blank range, that he was able to save. With just 11 minutes remaining in the match, Long posted a save on a strike from UK's Matt Lodge over the crossbar, and another from Lodge from point-blank range just six yards from goal. The anchor of the defense, Long and the Gamecocks played solid the remainder of the match to secure the win.

South Carolina swimming and diving teams had a solid start to the weekend by sweeping the three-meter springboard on Friday against Virginia at the Aquatic and Fitness Center. Senior Rylan Ridenour, who is the reigning SEC Diver of the Week, won the men's competition with a score of 395.85. In the women's competition, sophomore Patricia Kranz continued her impressive start to the season, winning the board with a Virginia pool record of 323.63.
Women's Basketball defeated Anderson 88-31 in exhibition play on Sunday at Colonial Life Arena. Sophomore forward Aleighsa Welch and freshman guard Asia Dozier both led the Gamecocks in scoring, each registering 14 points, and sophomore center Elem Ibiam led the team in rebounds with 12.

Men's Basketball defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 68-67 in exhibition play on Tuesday at the Colonial Life Arena. Junior guard Brenton Williams scored the go-ahead basket with just under three seconds on the clock to give the Gamecocks the win. Williams led the Gamecocks in scoring, with 22 points, while senior forward Lakeem Jackson registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Freshman forward Michael Carrera added 12 points and seven rebounds, going to the line 13 times, converting 10. As a team, South Carolina shot 38 free throws, making 27 of them.
South Carolina senior Rylan Ridenour was named the SEC Male Diver of the Week on Tuesday. Ridenour won the honor after sweeping the boards in last Friday's loss to top-ranked Florida. In his first meet of 2012, Ridenour cruised to a win on the 1-meter board with a score of 359.35, finishing 60.05 points ahead of the nearest Florida diver. Ridenour then won the 3-meter competition with a score of 396.60, besting the closest Gator by 48.37 points.

South Carolina senior basketball guard Ieasia Walker earned preseason second-team All-SEC honors by voting of the league's media members. Walker has been a driving force for the Gamecocks' emergence the last seasons using both her scoring and distributing abilities. A two-time All-SEC selection, the 5-foot-8 senior led the team and was among the SEC's top 20 scorers as a sophomore, posting 12.2 points per game.
The South Carolina baseball team concludes fall practice this weekend with the Garnet & Black World Series. First pitch for the opener is at 3 p.m. on Thursday. The Garnet team will be managed by senior RHP Patrick Sullivan with senior LHP Nolan Belcher serving as manager for the Black team.

Alawi teamed with junior Dominika Kanakova to reach the championship doubles match of the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships in Winston-Salem, N.C. The pair registered 8-3 victories in their first two matches versus Wake Forest and Winthrop before downing two doubles teams from North Carolina in the quarters and semis. Alawi and Kanakova fell 8-2 to Hanna Mar and Ester Goldfeld of Duke in the finals.

South Carolina men's tennis closed out a successful weekend at the ITA Carolina Regional at Cary Tennis Park on Sunday. Holding the No. 62 spot in the country, sophomore Andrew Adams handled UNC Wilmington's Zach Hublitz 6-4, 6-1 on Friday then dispatched William Parker, who played No. 5 singles for North Carolina most of last season, by a score of 6-1, 6-1.
Volleyball posted a dominating sweep at Mississippi State taking the sets 25-9, 25-15, 25-9. The Gamecocks took the first hitting .476 and not letting the
Bulldogs get consecutive points in the frame. Gamecock junior outside hitter Juliette Thevenin posted six kills
on six swings to lead the way. In the second set, Thevenin had seven kills without an error. The Gamecocks hit .402 in the win, while the Bulldogs hit just .074. The Gamecocks also won every stat category.

The South Carolina cross country team has entered the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Regional rankings for the first time this season at No. 8, the USTFCCCA announced Monday. The Gamecocks vaulted into the rankings after finishing third at Saturday's NCAA Preview Meet in the Women's Black Unseeded 6K race at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
Men's golf senior Dykes Harbin moved into position to capture his first career tournament title on Monday as he posted rounds of 66 (-5) and 72 (+1) in the first two rounds of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club. Harbin holds a three-shot lead over Georgia Southern's Scott Wolfes and Hayden Anderson, who are both at 1-under. As a team, the Gamecocks are tied for eighth place after shooting rounds of 294-301=595 (+27).

The University of South Carolina Department of Athletics hosted the Arlo K. Elkins Memorial Tennis Tournament Weekend on Saturday and Sunday in Columbia to honor Coach Elkins' 29-year coaching career with the Gamecocks' women's tennis program. Elkins ended his career at Carolina with a record of 438-291 (.601) and 19 NCAA Tournament appearances, including 17 straight from 1995 to 2011. His teams reached the NCAA Sweet 16 four times (1990, 1995, 1999, 2009) during his career and made one trip to the quarterfinals in 2009.
On Saturday the cross country team will face their toughest test of the season; the NCAA Preview Meet will featuring 15 nationally ranked teams at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. Freshman Kayla Lampe and senior Chelsea France are expected to lead the way for the Gamecocks on Saturday. Lampe enters the race with the fifth fastest 6K time (21:06.24) in the conference. France has consistently been South Carolina's second fastest runner this season and is 18th in the SEC with a 6K mark of 21:47.03.

Three University of South Carolina football players were named to Phil Steele's 2012 Midseason All-America team, it was announced today. Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was a first-team selection, while offensive center T.J. Johnson earned second team accolades. Punt returner Ace Sanders earned a spot on Steele's fourth team.
As part of its multi-year deal with Gamecock IMG College, Fox Sports has announced four University of South Carolina women's basketball non-conference games will air on its networks this season. The addition of the non-conference games expands the Gamecocks' television appearances to nine for the 2012-13 season, including three SEC games also on various Fox Sports networks.

South Carolina head basketball coach Frank Martin held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to preview Friday's first official day of practice. Martin had nothing but praise for senior guard LaShay Page, saying, "He's been great. He probably has been the most vocal as far as practice
goes and workouts go to get guys to move away from a negative moment in
practice, which is what leadership is about. It's about not dwelling and
going onto the next play, going onto the next teaching moment. He's
been the most vocal on our team doing that, which excites me."

Ryan Arambula and Gabrielle Gilbert from the South Carolina men's and women's soccer teams have been named Co-AgSouth Athlete of the Week. Arambula scored the first goal of his career, which was also the first game-winning goal of his career, in South Carolina's 2-1 victory vs. UCF in Conference USA action on Sunday. Gabrielle Gilbert has been instrumental in the recent offensive resurgence at South Carolina, culminating with the game winning goal Sunday vs Georgia for Carolina¹s first SEC victory of the season.
Senior center T.J. Johnson was named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week and Junior punt returner Ace Sanders was named the SEC co-Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time this season.

Following a convincing 35-7 rout of No. 5 Georgia on Saturday night and coupled with losses to Florida State and LSU, the University of South Carolina football squad climbed three notches to No. 3 in both the Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches' polls. The No. 3 ranking is the highest for Carolina since they were 9-0 and ranked second in the nation during the 1984 season. The Gamecocks have extended their winning streak to a school record 10-consecutive games, the longest current streak among FBS teams.
Women's Soccer junior Gabrielle Gilbert scored her second goal of the season to lead the Gamecocks to their first SEC victory of the season in a 1-0 win against Georgia Sunday afternoon. Gilbert scored in the 21st minute with assists from Dani Henry and Danielle Au. Sophomore Sabrina D'Angelo registered five saves to record her second shutout of the season.

South Carolina jumped two spots in the latest equestrian coaches poll and is now ranked second, it was announced today. The Gamecocks picked up a 13-7 win over Oklahoma State on Saturday, allowing South Carolina to jump third-ranked Auburn in the poll, as the Tigers defeated the Cowgirls one day earlier by only a one-point margin. South Carolina and Auburn will meet on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Blythewood, as both schools are competing in their first ever head-to-head SEC meet.

The South Carolina men's golf team carded a final-round 305 (+17) on Tuesday to finish in third place at the Rees Jones Invitational at Haig Point Club. Senior Dykes Harbin led the way for South Carolina as he recorded a final-round 77 (+5) to finish sixth, the best finish of his career and his second career top-10 showing. Freshman Matt NeSmith earned his first career top-10 finish as he tied for seventh place with a total of 223 (+7).
Gamecock Equestrian Freshman Sally Henry made an instant impact in her collegiate debut last week. Henry not only scored the Hunt Seat team's first point of the season with a five-point victory in Equitation Over Fences, she also earned the Gamecocks' first Most Outstanding Player award of the season. Henry's 88 was an event-high on Saturday, as she scored the first point of a 5-0 sweep for the Equitation Over Fences squad.
Did you know South Carolina leads the SEC in shortest distance between the stadium and Waffle House? Yum. A fan on Twitter pointed out we also probably have the shortest distance of any conference school to Bojangles. Double yum.

South Carolina erased a 10-point halftime deficit and scored four touchdowns in the second half on the way to a 38-17 victory over Kentucky on Saturday night. Junior running back Marcus Lattimore carried 23 times for 120 rushing yards and tallied two touchdowns with junior quarterback Connor Shaw going 15-for-18 in the air for 148 yards and two touchdowns as well as 19 carries for 76 yards on the ground. The Gamecocks are now 5-0 on the year and 3-0 in the SEC.
Equestrian officially began the SEC era on Saturday, as the Gamecocks defeated No. 5 Oklahoma State. The Gamecocks took an early lead as Sophomore Layla Choate scored South Carolina's first point of the season. She scored an event-high 73.5 to defeat the Cowgirls' Erin Willoughby. South Carolina continues its home stand on Thursday when the Gamecocks host No. 3 Auburn on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Blythewood.

South Carolina baseball's recruiting class has been ranked No. 10 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball. This year's class features 15 newcomers including high school standout Curt Britt of Laurinburg, N.C. As a senior in 2012, Britt went 8-0 and compiled a 0.48 ERA in 56.0 innings pitched with 70 strikeouts. Britt was rated No. 152 best high school prospect in the nation and No. 4 best high school prospect in state of North Carolina by Perfect Game USA.

Shaw's 20 consecutive completions are tied for the second most in SEC history with Ole Miss' Kent Austin, who had 20 straight against Tennessee in 1982. Shaw's completion percentage of 95.2 is also a school record and ranks second in SEC history behind Tee Martin's (Tennessee) record of 95.8 (23-of-24), which came against South Carolina in 1998.

Men's Soccer senior defender Kevin Stam was honored on Wednesday during University of South Carolina President Dr. Harris Pastides' State of the University Address for his involvement in the "No Limits" campaign. Juliette Thevenin stands 15th in SC history with 855 kills and 2,239 attacks. Thevenin needs 37 more kills to tie Belita Salters for 14th. Eleven more attacks will move Thevenin past Colleen McKenzie for 14th on that list. Thevenin is now second in kills per set (3.77) and 10th in digs per set (2.80) on the career charts.

The South Carolina equestrian team will begin its season next week as the No. 4 team in the country, as the preseason coaches poll was released today. The Gamecocks won the tenth and final Southern Equestrian Championship in March, defeating then-No. 1 Georgia in a 10-10 tiebreak.

The men's soccer team earned a 1-0 shutout victory over intrastate rival Clemson Tuesday night. Goalkeeper Alex Long collected his fourth shutout of the 2012 campaign and the seventh of his career with three saves in the match. The Gamecocks have now defeated Clemson in five of the last six matches between the two schools, having allowed the Tigers to score just two goals during the stretch. Carolina last defeated Clemson during the 2010 season, 2-0, at Stone Stadium.

Junior outside hitter Juliette Thevenin has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week and SEC Offensive Player of the Week in volleyball. Moving to 15th in Gamecock history with 855 career kills, Thevenin ranks second on the career charts with 3.77 kills per set. Her strong play helped the Gamecocks break the program record for best start to a season with a 13-0 mark, besting the 1983 team's 12-match winning streak to start the year.
A former JUCO All-American and SEC standout Laura Trout has joined the South Carolina softball staff as a volunteer assistant coach, the team announced today. Rounding out head coach Beverly Smith's full-time staff, Trout comes to the Gamecocks from Georgia, where she lettered two seasons and helped the Bulldogs to the 2010 Women's College World Series.

Marcus Lattimore rushed for 85 yards on just 12 carries and had one score as he became South Carolina's career leader in touchdowns with 34. He also moved into a tie with George Rogers (1977-80) and Harold Green (1986-89) for first in school history in rushing touchdowns with 31.
Led by freshman Kayla Lampe and senior Chelsea France, the Gamecocks placed seventh out of 24 teams at Percy Warner Park at the Commodore Classic/SEC Preview meet. Freshman Mary Fouse ran the gutsiest race, as one of her spikes was stepped on less than 800 meters into the race. She ran over three miles barefoot to finish the race as the team's fifth runner, (23:12).

Ko Simpson was named to the Southeastern Conference 2012 Football Legends Class. As a two-year starter for South Carolina, he was named first team All-America in 2005 and was a consensus first team All-SEC selection after recording 103 tackles. In 2004, he earned second-team All-America honors and was a FWAA and Rivals.com Freshman All-American after his six interceptions led the SEC. Simpson garnered SEC Freshman of the Year honors by the Associated Press and was a second-team All-SEC selection by both the AP and Coaches. He was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round of the 2006 NFL Draft and played professionally for both Buffalo and Detroit. The class will be honored at the 2012 SEC Football "Weekend of Champions" Nov. 30-Dec. 1 in Atlanta, Ga.
South Carolina men's tennis kicks off the 2011-12 season this weekend with the Duke Fab Four Invitational. Sophomore Thiago Pinheiro will be among the three 16-player singles draws, which feature 14 nationally ranked players.

Women's Soccer opens conference play this weekend when Mississippi State
and No. 21 Missouri visit Stone Stadium in the first year of the new
14-team SEC. The Gamecocks and undefeated Bulldogs will kick off Friday
at 7 p.m. before South Carolina welcomes nationally-ranked Missouri on
Sunday for a match that will broadcast live on ESPNU at 2 p.m.
The 11-0 start for the Gamecock Volleyball team is the second best in the program's NCAA-era history. The 1983 team began the season 12-0. South Carolina enters the weekend as one of 10 teams in NCAA Division I still undefeated.

Dylan Thompson has been named AgSouth Athlete of the Week. The redshirt sophomore made his first career start in place of the injured Connor Shaw and responded by completing 21-of-37 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in Carolina's win over East Carolina. The 330 yards passing was the most for a Carolina quarterback in his first start since Blake Mitchell threw for 330 to open the 2005 season. Thompson also was voted the ESPN Impact Performance of the Week winner for his efforts.
Heading into tonight's road match in Charlotte, Men's Soccer has won four straight games against the 49ers, including a 2-1 victory last season in a home contest vs. then-No. 21 Charlotte. Charlotte is currently ranked No. 5 in the country and the Gamecocks will look for another upset win after beating No. 2 USF in Tampa last week.

With a raucous crowd of 1,512 fans, the third largest in the 16-year history of the Volleyball Competition Facility, watching, South Carolina Volleyball swept past Clemson last Friday! Be sure to be in the house as they open SEC play this weekend vs. Georgia on Friday at 7 p.m. and vs. LSU on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

In just her second round as a Gamecock, freshman Sarah Schmelzel posted an even-par 72 on Monday afternoon to lead the South Carolina women's golf team in the second round of the Cougar Classic at Yeamans Hall Club. Schmelzel, who has a two-day total of 147 (+3), moved 18 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 42nd.

Marcus Lattimore scored the Gamecocks first and only rushing touchdown against ECU on Saturday, tying the school record for career touchdowns with 33, matching former Gamecock greats George Rogers (1977-80) and Harold Green (1986-89). Quin Smith, T.J. Gurley and Jimmy Legree led the defensive effort with five tackles apiece. Legree also recorded his first career interception and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown. Seniors D.J. Swearinger and Shaq Wilson and sophomore Brison Williams also came up with one interception each.
The 11-0 start for the Gamecocks is the second-best in the program's NCAA-era history, behind only the 1983 team who began the season 12-0. The big win over the weekend was a sweep of Clemson on Friday night in front of the third largest crowd in the 16-year history of the Volleyball Competition Facility.
