Updated Parking, Shuttle Service Info for Georgia Game

| 27 Comments | No TrackBacks

Gamecock Club members received a helpful email recently announcing some changes to timing for parking for this Saturday's football game vs. Georgia to accommodate hosting ESPN's College GameDay. Check out the information below. Please note one change from the original email in bold below about shuttle pick-up/drop-off location:

"We are excited to announce that ESPN's College GameDay will be broadcasting live from the Horseshoe this Saturday, October 6, before the Gamecocks take on the Georgia Bulldogs!

After having such a great experience on the Horseshoe during their last visit, the ESPN crew chose to return to this location to showcase our beautiful campus.

"The Horseshoe is one of the best sites we've ever had for College GameDay," said Lee Fitting, College GameDay Senior Coordinating Producer. "The picturesque collegiate backdrop creates the perfect setting for the show."

The three-hour show will be aired nationally beginning at 9 a.m.

The Fairgrounds and Farmers Market parking lots will open at 8 a.m. to accommodate fans wishing to attend. Free shuttles will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. with drop-off and pick-up locations at Greene Street in front of the Russell House and at the northwest corner of Williams-Brice Stadium off George Rogers Blvd.

Standard game shuttle routes from the Colonial Life Arena will resume at 4 p.m. and continue 90 minutes following the game for $3 roundtrip. The standard shuttle is no charge to students with a valid student ID card (CarolinaCard). The standard game shuttle will continue to pick up and drop off at Colonial Life Arena and the main entrance of the Fairgrounds on Rosewood.

All Gamecock Club season parking passes will be honored on Saturday. The back of the Fairgrounds will not be available due to preparations for the State Fair. Approximately 400 game day parking spaces will be sold between the Fairgrounds (go to Gate 6) and Farmers Market (in the back grass area; enter off Stan Spears Rd.) on a first-come-first-served basis.

Please visit GamecocksOnline.com for more updates throughout the week, including policies to follow on the Horseshoe.

Go Gamecocks!"

Recycle at Carolina Football Games

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

Thank you to all our fans who have helped us support the University of South Carolina's efforts in sustainability and being "green".

80,000+ people gathering for a football game can generate a lot of trash. Through our recycling efforts on site, 11,930 lbs. (5.97 tons) of mixed recyclables (aluminum, plastic, glass) were diverted from the landfill at the first two home football games.

Free recycling bags are provided by Facilities and Sustainable Carolina in the former Farmer's Market area. They can accept aluminum, plastic bottles, and glass, but no plastic cups (e.g. Solo cups) or food waste. Volunteers will there distributing bags this Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. and will be at every home game.

THIS WEEK IN GAMECOCK COUNTRY...

Men's Soccer is the next Carolina squad to take on rival Clemson this year. Our record vs. the Tigers so far in the 2012-13 season is 1-1 after a sweep by the Gamecocks in Volleyball and a tough double OT golden goal 1-0 victory by Clemson in Women's Soccer.
Football will host Missouri in the first SEC home game of the season. A limited number of tickets are still available and may be purchased online, by phone at 800-4SC-FANS or in person at the Colonial Life Arena Ticket Office for $60 each.

First Opportunity To #BeatClemson

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

With the start of 2012-13 and the month of September South Carolina will have three chances to Beat Clemson (for you Twitter-inclined folks, keep tweeting with #BeatClemson for each event!)

First up to take on the Tigers this year is Women's Soccer as they host Clemson this Saturday, September 1, at 7 p.m. at Stone Stadium. The Gamecocks hope their new freshmen faces can help extend their winning streak over Clemson, currently at a record four straight victories. We'll also have free Little Caesar's pizza on hand for students while supplies last.

Next week, Volleyball will host Clemson here at home in the Volleyball Competition Facility at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 7. It's the night before the football home opener vs. ECU so what better opportunity to warm up your screaming and cheering than against our upstate rival?

Men's Soccer will round out the month hosting Clemson on Tuesday, September 18, at 7 p.m. at Stone Stadium.

In line with the #BeatClemson theme, the first 200 fans at each event will receive a free "Beat Clemson" t-shirt. Check out a sneak peek!

Winning Weekend in Gamecock Country

| No Comments | No TrackBacks

The Gamecocks were very successful in their opening weekend with almost all sports in action at home here in Gamecock Country. All playing their home openers, women's soccer, men's soccer, and volleyball went undefeated this weekend - a rare feat!

Men's Soccer earned a 1-0 victory over College of Charleston Friday night on Stephen Anderson's first career goal.

Meanwhile over at the Volleyball Competition Facility, the Volleyball team hosted two matches on Friday and two matches on Saturday in the season-opening Gamecock Invitational, collecting victories in all four contests over Temple, Akron, Eastern Tennessee State, and UNC Asheville.

The match with ETSU was the only one to go beyond three sets, but the Gamecocks outlasted them for a five-set victory.

Freshmen provided the spark in the women's soccer team's 3-0 shutout victory on Sunday, accounting for all three goals. Coryn Bajema's two first-half goals gave her three total on the weekend (after the Gamecocks 2-0 victory over Mercer on Thursday) and Stevi Parker earned her first career goal. Fellow freshman Courtney Angotti-Smith registered two assists in the game, giving the Goose Creek native a total of three assists in her first two games in a Gamecock uniform.

There are more chances to check out all three teams at home this week, including the women's soccer team taking on Clemson on Saturday at 7 p.m. - the first Gamecock squad to face the Tigers this season. Check out all this week's home events here.

THIS WEEK IN GAMECOCK COUNTRY
