As the Gamecocks prepare to face rival Clemson this weekend in a three-game series (full notes and preview here), Coach Holbrook and his players shared some of their thoughts on one of, if not THE, best rivalries in college baseball. Check them out below:
Holbrook: "It's a great series...I think it showcases college baseball and what it's all about."
Tyler Webb: "I just think there are good players on both sides. You diffidently want to perform well on this big weekend with the opponent and the whole state is watching. I feel like on both sides the all the players on each team step up. ... You just need to have fun; it's just another game. Although it is a pretty big game it is still baseball and putting that extra pressure on yourself doesn't do any good and you still need to get out there and play and perform. When you get out there playing you don't worry about the opponent; you want to focus on what you need to do to win."
LB Dantzler: "It's huge. They are a great team, and it is just awesome to be a part of. The whole rivalry is exciting and it really is just a great time of year for us."
Max Schrock: "I'm definitely anxious. [The older players] say it's just like a completely different game. They can't describe it to me really. ... They told me that the fans will definitely play a role and they will be talking, they said to try to block it out and play the game. ... I wanted to be a part of the best rivalry in college baseball and I believe that's what this is."
Graham Saiko: "Obviously when you hear about South Carolina athletics, you here about the South Carolina, Clemson rivalry. I know it's a very big deal around here and I am very excited to play this weekend. I'm ready for the first experience and I think it's going to be fun."
