The Gamecocks' home-opener is just three days away! Check out a sneak peek of the first gameday program of the season. The first player featured on the cover will be junior quarterback Connor Shaw, who is also the focus of the program's feature story written by Media Relations Student Assistant Chelsea Carlson. Check out an excerpt below:
In preseason preparation, Shaw put in an immense amount of work but says he's worked specifically on two key elements: leadership and passing.
"I've grown into more of a vocal leader and I've been working on my passing game all summer, said Shaw. "I think that's benefited me and I'll continue to get better."
One way he's worked on his passing game is by studying other quarterbacks in the offseason. He specifically mentioned watching Drew Brees, the quarterback for the New Orleans Saints.
"The way he plays and scans the field, that's what I've been studying."
Shaw's optimistic that his hard work in the offseason will show on the field this fall.
The program this week also includes team previews for men's and women's soccer as well as this week's "Carolina's Finest" feature taking a look at Christina Glover from the volleyball team. We also recognize the contributors to the Garnet Way Campaign, look back at this date five years ago, September 8, 2007, and take a look inside the University at the USC Faculty Replenishment Initiative.
Thank you to the Media Relations staff for their hard work compiling the gameday program!
