MartinH.jpgAt this week's SEC Tournament in New Orleans, the conference will recognize a new "SEC Great" at each school's first game. The Gamecocks face Alabama at 3:30 p.m. ET today in the first round. (TV: SEC Network, Radio: Gamecock IMG Sports Network).

South Carolina will honor Henry Martin, Forward, 1943; 1947-49. Henry Martin played basketball at Carolina during the 1943 season and again from 1947-49. He was the first Carolina basketball player to score 1,000 career points, finishing his career with 1,082 points, an average of 12.2 points per game. He scored at a clip of 16.0 points per game during his senior season. He capped off his career with a 32-point performance as the Gamecocks defeated archrival Clemson in 1949. Martin was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2008.

Martin was no longer able to make the trip to New Orleans while recovering from an injury, but members of Martin's family will be on hand at halftime to accept the recognition on his behalf.

That picture is Henry's son Hank who played for Coach McGuire in the late 60's or earlier 70's. My Dad who passed away in 2010 was a teammate of Henry Martin's, Burt Orr.

Brittany, Hank is also Henry. Henry Jr I think and is a physician in Columbia. :)
