Bill Byrne.jpgOn Monday night's "Inside the Roost" radio show host Derek Scott and Athletics Director Eric Hyman were joined by one of the SEC's new AD''s, Texas A&M's Bill Byrne. Byrne is now in his 9th year as the Aggies' Athletics Director.

Hyman said when the AD's began discussing Texas A&M as a possible 13th member, he joked that, "you guys just don't understand. I've got a sister who's an Aggie graduate and my son-in-law is an Aggie. They're a whole different kind of people."

Byrne provided some quick facts about the Aggies that prove they'll be bringing "a competitive program to the Southeastern Conference."

"We've had some good success athletically over the last few years. Our football team is struggling this year, but last year we won nine games and were in the Cotton Bowl - lost to LSU, but a lot of people do that. Both basketball teams have been in the NCAA tournament the last seven years in a row, our women won the National Championship last year. Our baseball team was in the College World Series. Our track and field teams have won the National Championship, both men and women, for the last 3 years."

Byrne said that their coaches are attending the SEC coaches meetings as well as the Big 12 meetings this year.

The main thing Aggie fans are asking about in terms of moving to the SEC is a schedule, which Hyman said will be discussed in upcoming SEC meetings now that Missouri is officially joining the conference. Byrne also said that their fans are looking forward to going to different cities and venues. He believes that fans from other schools will enjoy themselves when they come to visit College Station. Byrne assured listeners that the Aggies "treat people right" and pride themselves on their hospitality.

Texas A&M is "really excited to be a member of the SEC" and they're looking forward to competing in the new conference next season.
"It's going to be a big transition for us, but we're looking forward to the challenge."

Make sure to catch "Inside the Roost" every Monday night from 7:00-8:00 p.m. on 107.5 The Game for insight into Gamecock Athletics with Derek Scott and AD Eric Hyman along with weekly guests.
