There were two key moments into tonight's game that could have turned the game into something much different for the Gamecocks... but the defense would answer with two huge plays to keep the momentum in Carolina's favor.
The second half was off to an inauspicious start for the Gamecocks after a personal foul penalty. Two plays later, Connor Shaw would be intercepted by Prentiss Waggner, who scampered all the way down to the SC 2-yard line before he was tackled. The Vols seemed poised to take the lead but on their second play from scrimmage, D.J. Swearinger snatched a pass out of the air to return possession to the Gamecocks and set up the clutch third quarter scoring drive that would take 11:35 off the clock and give SC a 14-3 lead.
In the fourth quarter the offense would cough up another turnover, as the Vols recovered a fumble by freshman Brandon Wilds. But, on their very first play, freshman QB Justin Worley heaved it into double coverage where All-SEC corner Stephon Gilmore came down with the interception.
