Spurs Up Player of the Game - Defense:

Antonio Allen - 10 tackles (8 solo, 2 assisted), 1 FF, 1 INT

Antonio Allen.jpegWho else? Three games into the season, three wins for the Gamecocks, and three straight big games from senior Spur Antonio Allen.

I gushed about Allen's big game against ECU in week one with a career-high 16 tackles and two fumble recoveries, one for a touchdown. He followed up with six tackles and an interception for a touchdown in Athens. Now, in the home opener win over Navy, he's my Spurs Up Player of the Game on defense for his team-high 10 tackles and interception that ended Navy's last chance drive in the fourth quarter.

"It was a rough game. I tried to make all the tackles I could," said Allen after the game. "Guys were flying around, they were cutting. I'm just blessed and lucky enough to go out and catch a pick and make a big play."

About that pick, unlike the last two games Allen didn't attempt to return it and went down on the Gamecocks' 45 yard line.

"I just looked it in and caught the ball and tried to get on the ground," Allen said, laughing. "I didn't try to score this time because the game was too close."

Great job, Antonio!
