Melvin Ingram has been described several times by his coaches and teammates as one of the best athletes on the team. Tonight the 6-2, 276-pounder put his talents on display all over the field, scoring TWO touchdowns and coming down with a clutch catch on an on-side kick attempt by Georgia in the fourth quarter.
It was a tough choice, but Ingram's first of two touchdowns is our Spurs Up Play of the Game this week. With just over two minutes to play in the first half, the Gamecocks lined up to punt, but the HBC had other plans with his "Garnet" play. Next thing you know, the Gamecocks are pulling a fake and, after a great block from Byron Jerideau, Melvin Ingram is sprinting down the sideline for a 68-yard touchdown. The score gave the Gamecocks the lead after the extra point, 14-13. It was the second week in a row the Gamecocks scored a touchdown on special teams (after Ace Sanders' punt return last week, also 68 yards). One could argue it as an offensive touchdown, as the run does count as rush yards for Ingram, but for a team that went seven seasons without scoring on special teams, I think I'll keep Ingram's awesomeness in that category. Along with his later touchdown on defense, a 5-yard fumble recovery, Melvin Ingram's name quickly became a trending topic on Twitter, meaning he was one of the most tweeted-about topics in the entire nation tonight.

Only one Bulldog really came close to Ingram on his run, senior CB Brandon Boykin, but he went low and Ingram easily dodged him. Ingram would tell the media after the game that he knew the 5-10, 183 lb. Boykin would go low:
"Why would a little guy like that try to tackle me?"
Indeed.
The Gamecocks open up home play at Williams-Brice next Saturday vs. Navy. Tickets are still available via Ticketmaster. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
