The home opener vs. Navy this weekend will be the first glimpse for many Gamecock fans at the Carolina Band under new director, Rebecca Phillips.
SC.edu reports that Phillips has "added 11 players to the ranks of the sousaphones for a total of 28 of the low-brass members of the tuba family that bring real heft to the band, which has 32 new members this year for a total of 280.
'It allows us to have more bass sound and that will allow us to have more volume,' Phillips said. 'We were able to immediately enlarge the brass section, mainly through recruiting.' " (SC.edu)
One of the biggest things fans will notice is a re-arrangement in the fight song. In past years, the spell-out C-A-R-O-L-I-N-A GOOOO COCKS! cheer has started up immediately after a score and led into the fight song. With all the excitement after seeing the Gamecocks put points on the board, sometimes the spell-out couldn't be heard or fans might join in about halfway through. In the new arrangement, the spell-out has been moved towards the end of the fight song, giving it a lot more "oomph". Fans will also be treated to a different halftime show from the band at every home game this year. Click here to listen to more music you may here between plays Saturday.
We'll be counting on all the Gamecock fans in Williams-Brice this Saturday to really shout out C-A-R-O-L-I-N-A GOOOO COCKS! when we get to that point in the fight song. And don't forget to put your spurs up. :) Hopefully you will get lots of practice with it the next few Saturdays!
Here's a short video from before the Georgia game last Saturday in Athens that will show you exactly where to expect the spell-out:
Tickets for the home opener vs. Navy are still available via Ticketmaster. We'd love to see a full stadium for the Gamecocks' first home game of the season! Go Gamecocks!
For other home games, tickets to Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and The Citadel are also on sale via Ticketmaster. The Auburn, Florida and Clemson games are sold out, but a limited number of season ticket packages have been held available that still include tickets to those games. Call 800-4SC-FANS to order. Go Gamecocks!

I'm looking for some sheet music for trumpet for some of Carolina's songs; like - Step to the Rear, 2001, Fight Song etc., can anyone help me out with this? Thanks!
LOVE the new arrangement! Great idea!
Our fans will now know exactly when to start the C-A-R-O-L-I-N-A! GOooo COCKS!, spell out. (Previously, we often missed the whistle prompt.)
Our fans now have the opportunity to yell "Go Cocks!", not once.....but TWICE, during the song.
The Fight Song will now inspire even more fan UNITY, noise, and SPIRIT among The Gamecock Nation!
I LOVE THIS! SOOO happy with our band director and the direction she has us going in.
hopfully coach hyman will have dr phillips on his future call in show ''inside the roost'' so we can ask question and ge to know our new band director better. the sec better watch out. the greatest band is on the way.
GOOO FIGHTING GAMECOCKS !!
