This Week's Home Events: Volleyball, W.Soccer Home Openers, Football Parties

Juliette Thevenin Temple MVP award.jpegThe 2011 season kicks off in earnest this week with several home events. Volleyball will play four matches this weekend as part of the Gamecock Invitational Tournament fresh off their three-game sweep to win the Temple Invitational Championship this past weekend and SEC Offensive Player of the Week Honors for sophomore Juliette Thévenin. No. 21-ranked Women's Soccer debuts at Stone Stadium for their home opener on Friday vs. Northeastern after opening the season with four games on the road, winning two shutouts over East Carolina and Arizona. Football kicks off the season in Charlotte on Saturday vs. ECU with several associated events here in Columbia, including Thursday's Wild Wing Cafe Street Party & Pep Rally and Saturday's official watch party at Buffalo Wild Wings Northeast.

Season tickets are still available for Volleyball, Women's Soccer and Men's Soccer on GamecocksOnline.com for $25 each for adults and $10 each for youth.


Thursday, September 1st

Volleyball vs. Gardner-Webb - 12:00 p.m. (Gamecock Invitational Tournament)

-Volleyball claimed the Temple Invitational title this past weekend with a three-game sweep.
- Juliette Thévenin earned SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors as well as Temple Invitational MVP and most valuable attacker honors, averaging 4.80 kills and 4.90 digs per set during the three matches.
-Gamecock Invitational - first chance of four this weekend to see the Gamecocks in action


Cross Country - Gamecock Invitational (5K) - 6:00 p.m.
Fort Jackson
-Only chance to see the Gamecock Cross Country team in action at home this season

Women's Soccer vs. Northeastern - 7:00 p.m.
Free pompoms and  team posters
-Home opener after their opening four-game road trip (wins over Arizona and East Carolina, losses to Arizona State and No. 12 Duke)
