With the 2011-12 season right around the corner, we wanted to take a look back at the past year. Over the next few weeks I'll be counting down the Top 15 Gamecock moments from 2010-11 across several sports from the Spurs Up perspective. It was a good year for the Gamecocks, so I hope you enjoy reminiscing with me!

Top Moments of 2010-11 #8.jpg#8 - Freshman Johnna Letchworth Named an All-American with Nation-Leading 11-1-1 Record

Johnna Letchworth3.jpegWe've had several freshman this year who made a huge impact on their teams (Marcus Lattimore, Bruce Ellington, Amanda Rutqvist, and Julie Sarratt to name just a few), so it's not a huge surprise that a freshman delivered our #8 Top Moment of 2010-11. Freshman Johnna Letchworth was one of 16 riders in the country (four per each of the four events) named to the Varsity Equestrian All-America team. Letchworth led the nation in the Horsemanship event with an 11-1-1 regular season record and a 4-1 post-season record for the best overall Horsemanship record in the nation, 15-2-1.

Three other Gamecocks, Carolyn Curcio, Maggie Fortune, and Kelsey Hart, received Honorable Mention recognition on the All-America team. The South Carolina Equestrian team has had a lot of great moments over the years, not the least of which are two Varsity Equestrian National Championships in 2005 and 2007.

With Letchworth and a great group of riders returning, the Equestrian team will be looking to stay on top in 2011-12. The season starts off with two home competitions - vs. Fresno State on Friday, September 23rd at 2:00 p.m. and vs. TCU on Friday, September 30th at 2:00 p.m. All home Equestrian competitions are held at One Wood Farm in Blythewood; admission is free so come on out!
