#12 - Julie Sarratt Throws a No-Hitter in Her First Game

The 2011 season marked the start of a New Chapter of Gamecock Softball. We followed the team for six weeks leading up to the opening weekend for the Gamecock Confidential series as we got to know the team and the coaching staff under new head coach Beverly Smith. The season started with the Palmetto State Showdown, a series of games vs. in-state foes hosted here in Columbia at Beckham Field. Freshman Julie Sarratt made her collegiate debut on the mound in the third game vs. Coastal Carolina and would go on to allow no hits, strike out five, and add a single and a RBI double at the plate in the 5-0 win over the Chanticleers. She earned her first of three SEC Freshman of the Week honors this season for her efforts. The tremendous freshman performance and start of the new season under Beverly Smith makes for our #12 Top Moment of 2010-11.

Sarratt would go on to perform well for the remainder of the season as well. She led the team in innings pitched (103.2), strike outs (70), and wins (8) and threw six complete games, including two more shutouts. Looking forward to an even better sophomore season from the Gaffney star!

Stay caught on the Top Moments countdown. I'll post the next moment every weekday and Saturday until we get to #1!
