This Saturday we'll have a great Union County contingent of fans at Softball vs. Ole Miss (Game time: 2:00 PM). The Union County chapter of the Gamecock Club has "adopted" Softball as part of our Gamecock Club Chapter Team Adoption program. The program, started last May, helps provide dedicated support to several of our athletic teams. There are 59 Gamecock Club chapters and each sport has at least two sponsor chapters.
The Union County group this weekend will consist of several chapter board members as well as a youth softball team from the county. They'll be tailgating pre-game then cheering on the Gamecocks in the stands at Beckham Field. After the game, Head Coach Beverly Smith will speak to the youth team, answer questions, etc.
Chapters attend an event of their adopted sport at least once per year and occasionally do other events or provide other help and support to the team, while the team makes a visit to their sponsor chapters. This past fall, our Dallas, Texas, and Eastern North Carolina chapters donated meals for the Men's Soccer team. Gamecock Club chapters also made it possible for Carolina students to attend last year's Women's Soccer NCAA Tournament games and this year's Men's Soccer NCAA Tournament games for free, tickets our student fans would have otherwise had to pay for.
Thank you to all Gamecock Club members for your continued support of all our athletic teams and I look forward to seeing the Union County folks on Saturday!
