In anticipation of this Saturday's SEC Championship Game, several national media outlets descended on Columbia Tuesday to talk with Coach Spurrier and Gamecock football players.
Popular topics included what it's like to be facing Auburn for the second time, what it means to South Carolina to be in the SEC Championship Game for the first time, the rise of Marcus Lattimore, how to stop Cam Newton, etc.
CBS was in town to shoot interviews as well as get quotes and content for their game intro's and promo's. I'm really looking forward to seeing it all come together. Their pre-game show starts at 3:00 PM on Saturday followed by the game broadcast at 4:00 PM. Erin Andrews of ESPN came in to do interviews for ESPN College GameDay (broadcasting from Oregon, not Atlanta). SEC Gridiron LIVE filmed content for their preview show and SportsIllustrated.com's College Football Tour stopped in for their "Just Askin'" segment with Coach Spurrier that I posted about earlier.

Former 1989 1990 Gamecock centerfielder. I am wondering how Carolina finishes 9-3 regular season and has to play lower ranked bowl than Alabama. If we were 9-3 and they were 9-3 and we beat them head to head and they non-conference opponents were weaker. How do they get a better bowl? We had to play the #1 team 2 times and nobody else did that. That was a bonus for our football team. Just wondering I was thinking Capitol one or Outback bowl.
There are a lot of factors that go into bowl invitations beyond records. While some folks might be disappointed it's not "higher", the Chick-fil-A Bowl is a great bowl that SC fans have been interested in going to for awhile. It's very well established and respected with marquee opponents, has sold out the past 13 years in a row, and a great fit for SC and our fans. We'll also be on primetime TV on New Year's Eve with no other football games on at the same time, which I really like.
