From The Chick-fil-A Bowl:
South Carolina and Florida State fans anticipating their match-up in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Dec. 31 can get an early taste of competition between their two head coaches in the Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament which airs nationally tonight, December 29th at 5:00 PM ET on ESPN2.
The Chick-fil-A Bowl Challenge is a charity golf tournament that matches top NCAA head coaches and celebrity alumni in two-man teams against their rivals for scholarship money. The April 2010 event featured 12 teams from the ACC and SEC, including both Steve Spurrier and Jimbo Fisher who will face each other in the Chick-fil-A Bowl on New Year's Eve. Spurrier played with Gamecock great Sterling Sharpe; the duo finished third, bringing home $50,000 in scholarship money.
Other university teams in the Challenge included Alabama, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Ole Miss, North Carolina, NC State, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
This year's event provided more than half a million dollars in charity and scholarship to the 12 participating teams and other beneficiaries.
"It really is a spectacular day on the golf course and this incredible group of coaches and celebrities represented their universities in a first-class way," said Gary Stokan, Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO. "But the privilege was all ours in being able to give so much back to these great schools and great competitors."
