It started off innocently enough.
ESPN commentator Brad Nessler,
in town to cover Saturday's game vs. Arkansas, just thought he'd help out a local charity. And now he'll be going home to Atlanta with a classic car.
Nessler returned to his hotel Thursday evening where a local charity event was going on. In the lobby was a white, beautifully reconditioned 1940 Dodge Coupe, a big ticket item in a silent auction. Nessler decided to put in a bid of $10,000, thinking he would just be helping out the charity by bumping up the price a bit and another vintage car enthusiast would surely outbid him for the valuable classic.
So he was thrilled, albeit a little shocked, when he heard that he had actually won. His wife of 32 years perhaps not so thrilled. Said Nessler, "I just hope she's still my wife when I get home!"
Nessler will have the car shipped home and add the Coupe to his current collection of three classics: a 1956 Thunderbird, a 1961 Corvette, and a 1965 Ford Mustang. I very kindly offered to take the '65 Mustang off his hands if he needed space in his garage for the Coupe. Ha!
