The South Carolina Gamecocks begin the 2010 season Thursday night when they host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles in a 7:36 p.m. kick at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia. Tickets still remain for the game. A crowd of around 70,000 is expected to be on hand.
Fans will want to check out the new Gamecock Village, located this year in the Farmer's Market near the Biscuit House and BoJangles. From there, it's an easy trek to get to the Gamecock Walk, which takes place approximately two hours and 20 minutes prior to kick each week at Gate 11 off Bluff Road (near the southwest corner of the stadium). Fans wanting to be part of the Gamecock Walk should plan to be there by 5 p.m. tonight.
The National Champion Baseball team will be recognized on the field just prior to kick. Later this season, the team will be honored at halftime of the Arkansas game.
Honorary captains for tonight's game are representatives from the Battle of the Bulge and Senator Graham.
The Legendary Fan of the Game will be Othniel H. Wienges Jr., a former member of the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees.
Senior defensive tackle Ladi Ajiboye will be featured on the cover of the official game day program.
For those who can't make the game in person, ESPN will have its regular Thursday night crew calling the game. Rece Davis will provide the play-by-play with Craig "The Pony" James and Jesse "The Bachelor" Palmer providing color commentary. Jenn Brown, a former Florida Gator softball player who earned a school record 14 varsity letters during her prep career in Orlando, takes over the sideline chores. The game can also be heard on the Gamecock Sports Network with Todd Ellis and Tommy Suggs in the booth and Terry Cousin on the sidelines. Andy Demetra and Brad Muller have the call on the SportSouth replay.
