Former catcher Landon Powell is back in the big leagues as he was called up by the Oakland Athletics last night.  Powell is one of three former Gamecocks in MLB right now along with Adam Everett (Tigers) and Brian Roberts (Orioles).

Former first baseman Justin Smoak is off to a hot start at Triple-A in Oklahoma City for the Texas Rangers.  Smoak is batting .326 (15-for-46) with a pair of homers and five RBI.  He has also walked 16 times to just six strikeouts and owns a .500 on-base percentage.  Smoak was also recently featured in Buster Olney's MLB blog on ESPN.com.

Another former first baseman, Steve Pearce, has also been on a tear at Triple-A in Indianapolis for the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Pearce, who has spent some time in "The Show," is batting .404 (21-for-52) with a pair of homers and six RBI as well as eight doubles and two triples.
