Baseball season starts this Friday so today's Know a Gamecock features one of the team captains - pitcher Jay Brown. A 6'4 right-hander from Brunswick, Georgia, Brown was named to the 2009 SEC Community Service Team. He has received a bachelor's degree in political science and is pursuing a master's degree in public administration.
Who is an MLB player you would say you model your game after?
Adam Wainwright. (St. Louis Cardinals) - He's from my hometown. He's a bit older than me but I've grown up watching him develop as a high schooler and then in the minor leagues.
What is your favorite MLB team?
Braves. I grew up as a Georgia boy and we always went to a couple of games every summer.
What is your favorite SEC venue other than Carolina Stadium?
I understand Arkansas is good, but I haven't been there yet so I can't say there. I'm going to go with Ole Miss. They've got quite an atmosphere.
Do you have a pre-game superstition?
Before the game when I tie my cleats, my right shoe has to be tighter than the left one. If that's not happening, then i have to redo it.
If you were going to sing karaoke, what song would you sing?
Garth Brooks - Friends in Low Places.

What is a talent you'd like to have?
I'd like to be able to play the guitar. I've messed around with it a little bit, but I haven't had the time to put forth the effort.
What is your most treasured possession?
Probably the President's Award that I received last spring. That was really a great honor and it meant a lot to receive that.
Who is your celebrity dream date?
I've always had a crush on Jessica Biel. She's quite an attractive lady.
What was your favorite TV show as a kid?
Saved by the Bell
What is one place you'd most like to visit?
I'm a big golf fan. I'd have to say St. Andrews where they play the British Open sometimes. That place is unbelievable.
What was the last book you read?
I just finished reading John Grisham's "The Street Lawyer." I enjoy reading his books
What is your greatest fear?
Being in a plane crash.
