A year ago, the Gamecocks celebrated the opening of Carolina Stadium with a 13-0 victory over the Duquesne Dukes. Starter Sam Dyson, Adam Westmoreland and Jordan Propst combined to one-hit Duquesne on the afternoon.
Darius Rucker sang the national anthem and former Gamecock head coaches Bobby Richardson and June Raines threw out the ceremonial first pitches with university president Dr. Harris Pastides.
Whit Merrifield scored the inaugural run in the bottom of the first inning and DeAngelo Mack hit the first home run in stadium history with a three-run blast in the fourth inning.
